How Potty Training created a Sugar Situation

January 28, 2010

The last week or so I have been potty training my 2 1/2 year old.  In a moment of sheer stupidity, I thought a fast and easy way would be to get a bucket of candy, cars, treats, etc. and whenever he went potty on the toilet he would get to pick something out of the bucket. Well it has been working quite well on the potty end, but now, both he and I are completely addicted to sugar. Why me, too? Because sweet boy that he is, he gets me a piece every time, too.  I hadn’t had sugar much for quite a while, so I can really feel the effects of this sugar jolt every couple of hours.  The worst part is, now I am craving sugar again. What was I thinking?  Even though it isn’t much sugar at a time, (think fun size) I am still getting headaches from it.  He isn’t 100% potty trained, yet, but I feel like I should do something to fix this. It would be so mean to take away the bucket, right? What should I do?!

wait until you are done training him then slowly take it away… or replace some of the candy with cheap little toys! or, do what i do when my kids feed me something i don't want… pretend to eat it, then spit it out!

Thanks Amanda. I love the idea of switching to toys. I should have done that from the start!
Hilarious that you pretend to eat what your kids give you and then spit it out. I'll try that, but I'll probably end up getting caught!
