I have a confession

February 18, 2010

I think I need to tell you the reason I felt so amazing running this morning might not be just from my new barefoot running shoes. Since I read Green for Life last week, I have been making myself a green smoothie each morning for breakfast. I think they are really making a difference.  I am sure the fact that it has never been so easy to run up the hill has more to do with these smoothies than my new favorite shoes. I am feeling wonderfully energetic and alert. I am surprised at how filling the smoothies are and I really think my cravings for junk are dwindling.

I was out of town this weekend and all I had was a Breville blender to make my smoothies in and they were not good, I couldn’t get the smoothie really creamy and I could see little pieces of the food- yuck. I think the Vita-Mix is the key to my deliciously creamy concoctions. (For free shipping at vitamix.com use code 06-004867.)

It is true, some smoothies are definitely better than others. I am on a mission to find the best ones.  I had a Healthy Chocolate Smoothie this morning and I thought it was really good (Doug didn’t love it, though). Do you have any green smoothie recipes that you love?

    Mary,
Hey, this is Bridget (Layton) Smith. I have been reading your blog for a few weeks now and love it…I found you on your facebook page. Anyway, i know you mentioned the VitaMix, so I am assuming that you have it and the cookbook. The “it's easy being green” is my FAVE! I have that–or some variation of it– almost every morning. I too have been making a lot of changes in my life toward more “green living” after reading a lot of research and it has been splendid. Have you read The China Study?

We have been sneaking spinach into our smoothies since you told us about this…and they are still really good. I know it sounds weird but we added banana, raspberries, green grapes, spinach and grapefruit juice for a delicious one today at lunch. Thanks for the tip.

    Hey Bridget!

So good to hear from you. I am so glad you like my blog- Thank you!

I have the vita-mix book and I will definitely try “it's easy being green” tomorrow for breakfast. I have been trying to have more green smoothies lately and I think they are really helping me be healthier and feel better.

I did read The China Study. I thought is was very interesting. It was one of the first books I read on this subject and it really got me thinking. I also really like Michael Pollan's books and food, inc; even skinny bitch diet is good. There are a ton of good books out there about this stuff right now.

Do you know much about eating Raw? I have just been starting to learn more about that and the evidence is very compelling.
