The Accidental Vegetarian

January 11, 2010

When my mother started eating The Green Diet about 5 years ago, not eating meat or dairy or sugar was a totally foreign concept to me- one that I rejected. I did not think there was any way she could continue not eating meat and sugar for long; I also thought it was weird.

Little by little, however, I have been changing. I have been educating myself on the meat industry. I have been learning about the effects of sugar and meats on my body. It is amazing how much my eyes have been opened the last couple of years.  Being armed with the knowledge I now have about food has made me want to cut out meat, sugar, and dairy even though I had no intention to go Green in the beginning.

I followed The Green Diet while I was researching for the book in order to fully understand what I was writing about, even I was surprised by how much better I felt. When I started eating meat again, I didn’t even particularly like it anymore. When I eat meat or cheese now I usually get a stomachache and if I have much sugar, I am guaranteed a headache.
